If Ann Coulter ever ran out of things to hate, I imagine she would shrivel up and die. I find it so terribly sad that someone as full of loathing as Coulter exists that I can't even bring myself to ridicule her as some do. I suppose she's interesting from the perspective of Pavlovian psychology (mention the word "liberal" in front of her and watch her foam at the mouth), but other than that all I can do is shake my head and sigh...

Ann Coulter is a performance artist: she performs the blind hatred and unfocused rage of the hard-core reactionary right, for which performace she is handsomely rewarded. I doubt she really believes half of what she utters, and I doubt she even cares. It's all a vehicle for self-promotion and self-aggrandizement.

I take it that she is not a role model for adjuncts looking for a different kind of work to doing the shit jobs in academia?

I always say beware of anyone who puts people into narrowly defined groups or who says things like "all liberals are evil". I am a very liberal person who has conservative friends and I like it that way...it leaves room for discussion and discourse. I guess Anne won't be happy until "liberals" and "conservative" duke it out in a civil war II while she sits back and gets paid for writing a biased account of why her side is the best. She reminds me of Bagdad Bob during the Iraq war and is very much the rights all american version

I read Anne Coulter's book 'Treason'. I agree that she is over the top. Her conclusions are not the same as I would draw and I disagree with her branding of all liberals with the same broad brush. Her work is well documented though and really made me think about the extent of communist infiltration into the governemnts of Roosevelt and Truman, now backed up by the Venona intercepts. Was McCarthy that far off? Any fence straddlers would be swayed by her book

What an unbelievable person? She seems to be the parodic figure of the right or something close to it. What a strange 'hate' figure. She looks like a strange mixture of glamour model, high-class hooker and aryan/Nazi type all rolled into one. I think Americans should be really worried about her.

Every force having an equal and opposite force can be applied as much to hate as a viable political editorial content as to physics. For decades the left launched avalanches of hate at the right and was relatively uncountered. And the level of vemon is as irrational to this day as anything I have ever witnessed.
I disliked Clinton, and my fellow conservatives disliked Clinton, but we didn't hate him, really despise him, in the way that liberals are hating Bush right now. This over a guy who, unlike Bubba, never f**ked around on his wife and, also unlike Bubba, has not a shred of evidence that he has gone out of his way to really hurt someone else (except terrorists, sadistic dictators and their ilk, and himself with a pretzel).
All Coulter is doing is taking the gloves off and fighting fire with fire, except her fire has a hundred pages of fine print documentation for every claim she makes while the left's fire requires a leap of faith that Bush just might be the Anti-Christ (if someone would just shave his scalp to expose the "666.")
What I question is, if she and analogously Rush Limbaugh are truly out of touch with reality with the level of their hatred, is the left as well? Or is that a one-sided phenomenon? And if they are that out of touch, why are so many people buying what they are pushing?

I do think that Anne Coulter is out of touch with what is happening in the US. Far from it. I think that she is in touch: has her finger on the pulse.

She articulates or expresses the political unconscious of the right if you like.

Though Coulter is American, and is reacting to the Clinton Democrats, as you point out, Anne Coulter also expresses what many Australian conservatives feel deep down inside. It's a very elemental,(raw, primal) emotional thing. Hence the violence of passion and the extremity of language.

But this sort of polemics is differnt from, and should not be confused with, a political history of the USA in the late 20th century. It's a different kind of writing altogether.

As a former conservative and current independent, I have to say that Anne Coulter is the embodiment of everything that caused me to leave the Right. If you have ever watched her on TV or any other 'live' venue, you will see her literally fabricate on the fly. She makes things up. I have seen it. Simply to continue the argument, she will state something that will sound ok, yet when you think about what she said, it will dawn on you that it is completely and totally wrong. This woman had very high book sale numbers. However, you need to look at the fine print on that as well. On the Times bestseller list, her book was noted as having inflated sales volume due to 'bulk orders' from many stores. It leaves me to wonder how many wealthy conservatives have bought cases of her book and are now using them as furniture.

If there was one woman President that I wouldn't mind seeing in office, it's Anne Coulter. She basically tells it like it is regardless of how it sounds. She doesn't sugarcoat anything. However, I would like to see GW in there for another term first.

This woman is appalling, she is the emodiment of "evil", as Dubya would like to say we need to be watching out for people like this. She is exactly the kind of person that would, kill millions of people for no apperant reason, sound like anyone you know? If Ann Coulter is so extreme in her beliefs, then why doesn't she pick up a weapon and start the civil war, rather than just exhorting others to violence like a chickenshit? The Unabomber and Timothy McVeigh had extreme political viewpoints too. The only difference is they had enough conviction to actually kill people over what they thought. I guess Ann isn't patriotic enough to put action where her mouth is.

Her journalistic abilities are horrendous (and intellectually dishonest) and are more akin to the writing skills of a teenager than a professional.

It generally breaks this way, and yes I shall paint with a broad brush: those on the Left do no truly treasure individual freedom, as evidenced by their continued resort to force as a means to make others "do the right thing." Be it taxes, childcare/health care, government housing, free education, or smoking bans, the liberal stance on each issue involves coercion of private citizens. What galls most is their inability to admit it.

Oh there are right wing pundits and left wing pundits, and it is obvious that they have to fight for their side. But what I, as an educated and well informed person who might be dubbed a liberal have against Coulter is her brainlessness. She makes misinformed statements (Canada sent their soldiers to Vietnam?) and worse vehemently supports them. While she has the right to spew hate, as part of freedom of speech, there is a big difference between an opinion that I do not agree with and an absolutely wrong fact.

In five years, Anne Coulter will be lucky to find a job writing obituaries for the Cleveland Plain Dealer. She's riding a current cultural wave for all its worth and when that wave subsides, she'll disappear.

She has no real skills as a political commentator as Pat Buchanan or William Buckley do. Her "journalistic style"--if you can call it is comprised of a half dozen catch phrases and buzz words, slander and circular "logic" that says the sins of the right are actually the sins of the left.

But she doesn't really need to use logic because she counts on the pumped up nationalistic rhetoric of her followers to carry her point. Anne Coulter is a highly educated individual who has a firm and honest grasp on reality. Liberals are jealous of that simple fact and insist on attacking Miss Coulter every chance they get! Anne Coulter has more talent and integrity than any Liberal who has ever existed. I personally feel sorry for you Liberals who spend your time envying this wonderful and talented woman. my advice.... get a life and get over it. For a bunch of peaceful, tolerant libs, I've never heard so much talk about"hate" speech. All you do is say she has hate for this and hate for that but not one of you provides a single example of it...I guess when one is full of hate the projection of it is much easier.
