"...public opinion deserves to be respected as well as despised" G.W.F. Hegel, 'Philosophy of Right'

I've just a report on ABC television about Danna Vale MP outliningg her reasoning for opposing the bill to shift the decisions for the safety of RU 486 from the Health Minister to the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). Vale said:

I've actually read in the Daily Telegraph where a certain imam from the Lakemba mosque actually said that Australia is going to be a Muslim nation in 50 years' time. I didn't believe him at the time but when you actually look at the birthrates and you look at the fact that we are aborting ourselves almost out of existence by 100,000 a year — a guesstimate. You multiply that by 50 years — that's 5 million potential Australians we won't have here.

We will be outbreed by the Muslims was the reasoning. What has that got to do with the TGA I wonder? And this person was once a Minister?

Australians are aborting themselves out of existence? Huh. And the Muslims will take over because Muslim families continue to breed. Huh. So down the drain goes the Burkean British heritage. Really?

The statement is a suitable candidate for psychoanalysis. Is it not the political unconscious of conservatism that has been disclosed by this 'us-and-them ' statement? The fear that ' they' (Muslim fanatics) will succeed in turning us into Taliban-style Muslims? Since we freedom lovers don't want that kind of life, then we are in for a long war-- a permanent war.
