If there are diverse kinds of knowledge and ways of knowing place, then we need to learn to value the different ways each of us sees a single place that is significant, but differently so, for each perspective.

Hillary '1984' « Previous | |Next »
March 24, 2007

I'm making the shift to multimedia by making use of YouTube so that junk for code is not soooo 2006. The video is an innovative reworking of Apple's 1984 Superbowl commercial.

This video is a reworking by speech professor of the powerful 'Vote Different ' citizen ad----BIg Sister/1984 video----was posted on YouTube by ParkRidge 47 March 20th 2007.

Is it just another YouTube moment? Or something more?

This effective example of cultural jamming does provide one answer to the questions raised in this post about the potential of YouTube. The "Hillary '1984'", as a user-generated political video, does rupture the power of big money message controllers very effectively. The spin and political message will be much more difficult to contain now.

Does this kind of user generated content represent a watershed moment in 21st century media and political advertising?

i don´t remember anymore how i find your link today but it´s the best discovery for me. My english is veryyyyy bad but i will try to understand all your post ;)) But about 1984, this book leave my father very nervous with me, he was communist and in 80`s I just read science fiction, after 10 all of then was visionary... incredible this life... also is so strange that in some way have a trend again about totalitarianism governments, i feel it in south america and also in my country, a mountain of lies for to trust... we need to forgot that we have a mind and memories... great that always we have exit for not be a "not thinking human" and youtube is a rich weblink full of great movies for to amuse, for to reflect, and to think about what the life is in fact. So i will come back here many more times for to read yours insights ;))

Mal E,
no I hadn't seen Mad TV iRack Apple Iraq war parody on YouTube. Thanks for that.

Very clever. A bit heavy handed, wordy and long. But witty cultural jamming.

The multimedia visual artists could be doing a video parody on the Gunns/Tasmanian Government proposed pulp mill and posting it on YouTube. As far as I can make out the dissident voices are grouped around the online Tasmanian Times. YouTube opens up a lot more possibilities.

Patricia,
thanks for the kind words about junk for code. Yes, you are right about the authoriarian tendency via executive dominance. In Australia it has takeen its most developed form in Tasmania around this issue, which I mentioned here on junk for code.
