If there are diverse kinds of knowledge and ways of knowing place, then we need to learn to value the different ways each of us sees a single place that is significant, but differently so, for each perspective.

People don't like politicians much, do they. They are seen as grubs and they are deeply distrusted. They are usually seen as the lowest of the low--generally down there on the trust list with real estate and car salesmen and financial advisers spuiking investments in Gold Coast properties.

On occasion our unconscious hopes and desires for a better live are projected onto a particular political figure --eg., a Whitlam, Dunstan, or Hawke ---only to have them dashed on the rocks of economic reality of capital flows. The economy and business gets in the way of our dreams and utopian desires.

The dashing of our dreams, we come to realize, is the consequence of living in a capitalist economy in which instrumental reason rules in the name of profit and wealth creation. It becomes a case of hanging onto our desires for love, romance and wellbeing in a tabloid world entertainment world of manufactured beauty, mass deception, high levels of violence and strong law and order.

Perhaps the dim witted cripple just wants peace?

Les,
or a disguised lost blue collar unionist in the technocratic Rudd ALP living out their historical memories after watching Bastard Boys.

The parachute might have a couple of holes in it by what I just saw on the 7:30 report.

ha ha Kevin Rudd playing all the positions in the team was funny.

Les,
yes I saw the Clarke + Dawe piece on the 7.30 Report. I thought it one of their poorer efforts in terms of bite and snap. A journeyman effort.

Much greater material around than that, given that Gillard and Garrett are making the running in their portfolio areas. Garrett is all over the climate change issue.

I usually turn the sound or channel when they come on nowadays because they have lost their Zing. It amused me because I have been putting that opinion out there.
Clarke is capable of much better comedy rolls than that. I guess its a bread and butter weekly gig for them.
Thats the thing with comedy. Doesn't matter how funny you are there will always be some hard arsed old woman at the back of the Room that thinks you stink.

Some of the Clarke + Dawe gigs are better than others. But it is generally pretty classy political satire, given the minimalism

I have seen clarke in a couple of aussie blue singlet roles. He does it well. I enjoyed the olympics show they had a few years back
