If there are diverse kinds of knowledge and ways of knowing place, then we need to learn to value the different ways each of us sees a single place that is significant, but differently so, for each perspective.

looking for something firm in a world of chaotic flux

Snaps: Tasmania « Previous | |Next »
December 31, 2006

The photograph doesn't work, but it is kind of interesting, though I am not sure why.

I can never do forests very well. I've always been defeated by them. Too much chaos and busyness. This sketch/snap was trying something different when I was touristing in the Franklin/Gordon National Park.

I think you should submit this to this site as a close encounter. It looks Very Alien. http://www.ufocasebook.com/

Shaymus,
I hadn't thought of it that way. Interesting. You are visually more acute than I am---visually literate as they say. An indication of being visually trained. I've just picked mine up along the way and it shows.

I have no visual training other than what I have done to myself. I like the pic though because it is different to your usual pics which have common texture theme...I would guess that it reflects your need to escape from between the Brackets sometimes. I like the texture theme pics though. They can have great movement.

Shaymus,
well you sure have taught yourself to do a close read of an image.

I'm not sure what you mean by my pics having a common texture theme.

By a texture theme I mean that a lot of your pics explore the difference between light and dark in shading.

Shaymus,
the light dark texture is what photography is about isn't it? Writing with light, as it were.

However, I'm unsure how exploring that texture reflects [my] need to escape from between the Brackets sometimes.

What does 'between the Brackets' refer to? The outer boundaries of the image?
