I'm often frustrated by shooting in the field with close ups as the conditions are, more often than not, too difficult, such as waiting for the sun to go behind a cloud to reduce the contrast. So the first step was to shift to a constructed still life situation, such as this or this or this.
This picture was the beginning of shifting to a still life. It was constructed in the field and shot handheld with a digital camera when I was in Canberra. It gave me the impetus to make the move to working in a studio situation using a tripod, film and the Rollei.
The great control in the studio provides me with a way of getting to know, and learn about, the idiosyncrasies of the Rollei 6006, as well as to get a better quality image. The studio set up is simple: a table, a dark cloth as back drop, natural light, some roses and leaves and a vase.
