If there are diverse kinds of knowledge and ways of knowing place, then we need to learn to value the different ways each of us sees a single place that is significant, but differently so, for each perspective.

The me-too election campaign rolls on along with the spin and puffery.

Bill Leak

Labor is still in the box seat to win the election . But its image has suffered in recent weeks in a traditional area of strength --the environment. But it is increasingly obvious that politicians in this area are afraid to speak their minds, to admit that there are different sides of questions, or to engage in real debate.

No doubt every draft speech written in Peter Garrett office, for example, is sent over for vetting by Kevin Rudd’s office to ensure Garrett stays on message. Garrett dutifully plays the game.

Howard + Co are gone--Leak is right. Howard is putting a brave face on things whilst Abbott is flipping out. It's over.

Pam,
it looks like it. The polls have been the same for — seven months or so-- there has been no change or ‘narrowing’ worthy of the name: Howard’s Coalition has been trailing Rudd’s Labor Party by seven to 10 percentage points all along (give or take the occasional spike or dip or rogue poll) and the election campaign hasn’t shaken the trend so far.

The Australian Government is considering setting up a 'consultation blog' to give the public a chance to have their say on public policy and proposed legislation.

If you'd like to help shape this blog then do this quick survey here

It only takes a couple of minutes and could lead to something that really makes a difference.

Thanks.

What I don't understand is why Garrett would make an off-the-cuff remark to Steve Price of all people? Especially when Price interrupted a private conversation in the Qantas chairman's lounge.

have a read of Jack Marx hanging out at the Big Dick Lounge over at the Bulletin's Bullring
