If there are diverse kinds of knowledge and ways of knowing place, then we need to learn to value the different ways each of us sees a single place that is significant, but differently so, for each perspective.

Best Street Party Ever - Parents Yet To Find Out « Previous | |Next »
January 16, 2008

In the age of Paris Hilton we have Party boy Corey:

Corey Worthington could earn lots of quick money if he played his cards right and had the right publicity agent. So far the teenage party host - was unrepentant about the affair, adopted a cavalier attitude towards authorities and his parents, who at the time were on holiday interstate, as he cultivated his new-found fame.

He has maintained a public profile, appearing on television and radio as well as spending time at the beach with friends, and making international headlines. He would gain a lot of sympathy for his utter disdain for A Current Affair and his fightback against their boot in the mouth interview style.

This kid is the perfect product. From his bad hat to his little bogan toes he presses all the right buttons. The sunglasses are a stroke of marketing genius.

Best of all, he's achievable. Unlike Paris, anybody can be a Corey.

Lyn,
we have Facebook rallying around the embattled teenager.

Pam, some of the wackier wits around the opinionsphere have started a Free Corey chant. I don't do Facebook so I'm waiting for the bumper sticker. Corey is the new Hicks.

It was funny that his parents were away holidaying on the Gold Coast at the time.
Now what does that tell you? Monkey see, Monkey do?

It could only happen on the Gold Coast where reality has been swallowed up image. It is the world of simulation and simulacra. In the face of this ‘loss of reality’, we must come to terms with ‘the world of images of the world’.
