If there are diverse kinds of knowledge and ways of knowing place, then we need to learn to value the different ways each of us sees a single place that is significant, but differently so, for each perspective.

Stranded « Previous | |Next »
February 8, 2008

Amy Stein explores the space on America's highways; "Stranded is a meditation on the tension and desolation found on the shoulders of America's highways and interstates. My photos challenge the viewer to slow down and witness scenes of futility playing out in an uneasy and alien space."

Cam,
I haven't had a chance to look at the work of Amy Stein until now. Thanks for sharing this work. What interesting work. Golly she spend weeks at a time driving across America's highways and interstates photographing stranded motorists. I've seen this image before, somewhere.

I'm going to enjoy going through the different portfolios or projects. The Car Culture exhibition Stein refers to looks very interesting. Have you seen it?

Cam,
I've been without a computer so I haven't been able to comment. Thanks for the link. I agreee with Pam. This is good work. I really like the domesticated nature series.

Stein opens up a world for me as a photographer---forcing me to think in terms of photography in terms of projects, rather than just taking images whenever I have some free time. Thanks for that. Much appreciated.
