If there are diverse kinds of knowledge and ways of knowing place, then we need to learn to value the different ways each of us sees a single place that is significant, but differently so, for each perspective.

Another city, another hotel, another view.

HiltonHotelwindow.jpg Gary Sauer-Thompson, from the window of the Hilton on the Park, 2008

I'm in Sydney, in the Stamford hotel next to the airport. I'm here for meetings on Saturday afternoon, and in the morning to pick up the repaired Toshiba laptop, and to discuss ways to improve the technological functioning of thought-factory.net by setting up remote access.

The view from the window is poor----its all airplane sheds. There are a few trees, but its mostly concrete and tin. The area outside the hotel is all roaring traffic flows. On Sunday I plan to explore Newton with my camera before returning to Adelaide.

Gary,
I sometimes wonder what would happen if humans disappeared. How long would it take before this scene looked like an abandoned Incan city, covered in green and wildlife living in the buildings. Highrise balconies could host bird breeding colonies.

Gary,
so what happened to the Toshiba laptop? Where's the photoblog?

Pam,
the Toshiba laptop needed a new hard disc and servicing. It was worn out from hard work. It used to run 24/7 for a couple of years.

It has now become my personal computer that I use for my weblogs and photography. It will last for a couple of more years.

I have a new Toshiba for work. So work and personal are now separate.

As for the photoblog---well it is coming. I was led to understand that it would up and running on Friday---along with the other changes on Thought-Factory-net. But it was not to be.

Lyn,
it would not take long. It is probably happening to some of the country towns that depended on water flowing down the Darling River for their irrigated agriculture.
