If there are diverse kinds of knowledge and ways of knowing place, then we need to learn to value the different ways each of us sees a single place that is significant, but differently so, for each perspective.

Beyond Reasonable Drought « Previous | |Next »
November 11, 2008

Beyond Reasonable Drought is an Old Parliament House travelling exhibition in association with the MAP Group of photographers. The exhibition is at the Horsham Regional Art Gallery from 4 Nov 2008 – 14 Jan 2009 and the images are on Flickr.

Since the images are copyright to the individual photographers I will post one of mine from the River Murray series:

jetty, Milang, originally uploaded by poodly.

This is my contribution to the project as it were.

Robert McFarlane, in a catalogue essay, says that there has not been a tradition of documentary photographers in Australia have not explored social or environmental issues in depth by using a collective of skilled documentary photographers – such as America’s Farm Security Administration did in the 1930s. The formation of MAP (the Many Australian Photographers Group) in Australia has as its goal documenting the effects caused by Australia’s current environmental extreme – drought.

Lovely emotive picture Gary.

Thankyou Cam. It was taken during my winter holidays down at Victor Harbor. It was good to get back into the swing of tripod based photography wiith the Rollei SLR again.
